Gigantic win leaves Packers out in cold

GREEN BAY, Wis.

The future is suddenly so bright for football fans, the NFL should have been handing out shades Sunday night.

Cheeseheads needed them to hide their swollen red eyes. Tom Coughlin needed a rose-colored pair to complement his frostbitten cheeks.

And best of all, the light of competition is now shining on the Super Bowl.

It appears we're in for a game, not a coronation. That may not hearten New England fans, but it will make the next two weeks a lot more interesting for the rest of America.

The Giants are good enough to beat the Patriots. More importantly, they are lucky enough or plucky enough of whatever you want to call it when a team keeps defying expectations.

Neither wind nor cold nor gloom of night could keep them from their appointed round Sunday. When Lawrence Tynes kicked a 47-yard field goal in overtime, the scene turned into gloom of Favre.
